Cleaning Out the Halls with the Tardy Sweep

Have you ever walked the halls without a pass, or been late to a class without thinking anything of it? On Friday, January 17, East Noble administrators made all of the students think twice by conducting the very first Tardy Sweep. Without any warning, just seconds after the second period bell rang, all teachers were instructed over the intercom to shut their doors and let no student in who didn’t have a yellow pass in hand. All of those stuck in the hallway took a long walk to the office for whatever waited for them there.

Aubrey Lewis, a junior, was unlucky enough to be caught in the Sweep, but was saved by the yellow slip she wisely grabbed before leaving the room. Others around school were rumored to have jumped through doorways just  to avoid whatever punishment superseded the event.

Minutes after the Sweep, an email was sent out from Assistant Principal Mr. Stinson, informing that 25 students were caught roaming the halls without a pass or reason after the bell had rung. Consequences were distributed to the dawdling group of students and the whole endeavor was meant to serve as a reminder to everyone that class time is very important to our success and should be utilized. This initial Tardy Sweep is also the beginning of what is to presumably become a routine at East Noble in order to put a stop to the behavior. Although some students got a laugh out of the event, it was to others a push in the right direction; to class.
