Complete Guide to Being a Freshman

Complete+Guide+to+Being+a+Freshman

Looking forward to finally being in high school is the best part about the summer between 8th and 9th grade.  The excitement of navigating a new school, meeting new teachers and peers, participating in clubs and sports, and taking new classes is fantastic, but it all can be a little intimidating.

Navigating the School. Finding your way around East Noble can be overwhelming at times, but it only took a week or two before I memorized a lot of the school.  I would recommend touring the school the day before school starts so you’re more prepared.  Also, refer to the map on the back of the yellow folder everyone got at registration.  It becomes a lot easier to navigate the school as time goes on.

Meeting Teachers.  Getting to know your teachers seems challenging every year, and especially at a new school.  Teachers are a lot more personable than TV shows will make them out to be, though.  No matter who you are or what grades you get, if you participate in class and you come in with a positive attitude, your teachers will not have a problem with you.

Get Involved!  Getting involved is the key to meeting new friends and having the most fun that you’ll have in high school.  Whether you’re into sports, volunteering, writing, or anything, there is probably something at East Noble that you can get involved in.  Clubs and sports will help you socially, but remember that you need to keep your grades up in order to be able to stay in these groups.

Classes Are Important! Your GPA is the most influential piece of information about your high school years, and every year counts.  In freshman year, many classes are required, which means that these classes are important.  If you are taking a class you don’t necessarily care for, still give maximum effort because one failed class can ruin your GPA for the year.  Also, your grades are what keep you in sports and clubs, so you always need to keep them up.

High school is very important and should be taken seriously, but it can be very fun if you stay on track, get involved, and make new friends.  Have fun and good luck in your first year at East Noble High School!
