-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Sometimes I just have the need for some wise words, and when that need arises it is always a safe bet to go with our buddy Ralph. I’ve been thinking a lot about our Seniors as their high school experience is wrapping up, and I think this is fitting. One of the great things about a graduation, a move, a new job, etc. is that you just get to be you; you are no longer “the slave of your own past” as Emerson says.
Sure it is scary; any time you trade something you are familiar with for an experience you have never had before, our human hard-wiring makes us a little jumpy. But because what you are going into is uncertain doesn’t make it bad, it makes it interesting. Nothing in life is quite as refreshing as a blank canvas!
So Seniors, and anyone else who is considering making a change, “Plunge into the sublime seas” of the unknown, develop and discover who you really are, and make sure to check in when you get back!
