As the co-ed cross country season comes to a close, seniors reflect on the four, strenuous years that have passed. But, this does not apply to everyone on the team: Senior Abbie Peterson shares her story on how her first and last year of cross country was monumental in her life.

While this is only her first year on the team, Peterson thoroughly enjoyed the time being. She discovered how difficult and challenging running cross country is, but said it is just as rewarding as well. She explained how she had “never been a runner before.” Despite that, she pushed through till the end of the season.

“I learned a lot about the science behind it…” she said. Peterson explained that it takes “a lot inside of you,” and she never realized how demanding running can be on the human body.

Peterson is currently in the process of receiving her Congressional Nomination and hopes to attend West Point Military Academy in New York this coming fall. She stated that cross country helped her with military training as well.

With a successful championship at the NE8 Conference this past Saturday, Peterson is “very positive” that the Knights will succeed. “All of our runners are very hardworking…” she said.

The Knights will compete in sectionals this Saturday, October 8, officially ending the season.
